Rex Rabanye

Micheal Morake (Rex) Rabanye (born 13 March 1944 - 10 October 2010) was a South African jazz, fusion and Soulful pop musician born in Potchefstroom. He became a founding member of the Teenage Lovers band in the late 1960s. The band consisted of Rex (Keyboardist), Dan (Guitarist), Toto (Bass Guitarist), Boy (Saxophonist) and Victor (Drummer). The band made platinum hits like "Botany 500", "Trinity", "Mmabatho", "Potchefstroom Road" among others. When the Teenage Lovers disbanded Rex went solo, he conceived platinum-selling albums like Onketsang (1986) and Moya moya (1987).
Rex had a Degree in law which he obtained at the University of bophutatswana(now North West University),The University is based in Mafikeng where Rex lived with his family for some time.
Rex died on the 10 October 2010 at his home in Potchefstroom after battling a long illness.
Rex has received many awards in recognition for his contribution in the music industry, one being the SAMA lifetime achievement award during the 2006 MTN SAMA's.
